What’s your story with France?

For the 100th dose of Frenchness, I asked the community to share their own story with France. I am always curious to know how people who grew up in a different country fell in love with mine.

Well, I loved reading your anecdotes. You can read a few entries here, and if it makes you want to share yours, please email me and I will add it to this post below.

Let’s inspire each other and keep that special connection with France alive!

Riris’ story:

“I fell in love with French culture when I visited Paris in 2017. From the first morning cafe and warm crepes to the quiet walks past beautiful old buildings. The language sounded like music, the pace of life felt slower and more intentional. It was so different from life in the States, and it really touched my heart.

Meeting Cynthia and going to a retreat in Provence last summer made it even more special. It wasn't just the place, it was the people, the warmth, the conversations, and the breathtaking landscape that moved me the most. I came home with a heart full of gratitude and so many beautiful memories that I've poured into my paintings. Grâce a toi, Cynthia!

Linda’s story:

“I grew up in rural Mo. Taking two years of French in high school and two years in college, I’ve always loved everything French. My plan was to work in France, but Life intervened and changed my career trajectory.

In 1995, I was in Paris sitting in a little outside bistro eating a baguette, jambon, beurre and fromage with a lovely white wine. I couldn’t stop the tears as I looked across the street to majestic Notre Dame. It’s a moment frozen in time in my mind and my heart. We never know where Life will take us. The trick is to be open to change and opportunity.

J’adore Paris pour toujours.

Kathy’s story:

“I fell in love with Provence the very first time we visited in 2008. One of my most memorable moments was when I got us lost on the Montagne de Lure and found the hermit monk!!
When we were in Provence in 2024, we both fell in love with Cucuron ~ it felt to both of us like coming home.”
